The London franchise of a well known Spanish Chain delivers service and quality in Islington

London has become a great place to have Spanish food. Yet you can find a lot of not-so-good Spanish restaurants around, trying to cash in on this trend, promising great Spanish food and delivering bland tasteless junk. We went to "Canas y Tapas” not knowing what to expect but really curious wth it beng the first British franchise of a well established Spanish chain, with a great reputation.

The first thing that got my attention was the really warm welcoming we got, which is not that usual in High street restaurants with staff over stressed (and normally underpaid…). On top of beng warm, the waittress was incredibly professional, explaining the unusual system of ordering with a chalk board. Rather than bombarding the client wth a plethora of dishes, the menu is relativley short and simple, although ofcourse offering the basica to quench a craving for croquetas, gambas and so on.

We chose Pimientos de Padron, Coca de Cristal Iberica, Surtido de croquetas, Calamares a la andaluza, Gambas a la plancha and a Surtido de Quesos, all of which arrived at great speed. It was a very slick operation, that also delivered on taste and quality. CyT boast that they bring all their ingredientes directly from Spain, and it does taste like proper Spanish food. The seafood was fantastic and the quality of the ham and the cheeses was very very good.

To finish off we had 2 of the quintessential Spanish desserts Churros con chocolate and Crema Catalana, both delivering on flavour and presentation. A superb addicting to London already great selection of latino restaurants. Highly recommended.
