La Yegros at Rich Mix

La Yegros is so cool. Self-aware and on top of everything that goes on during the show, she comes to stage in high platform shoes, short skirts, afro hair up, really up, and full of colour. Tones of green, pink, blue, yellow, and black, all combine through almost ornamental patterns and ‘nature’: the leaves in her dress combine with those that decorate the stage and with the most minimal of her musicians. The audience is passionate. They stand very close to her, and can almost touch her.

She wears black glasses, but as ‘Carnabailito’ – one of the songs of her new album Magnetismo – starts playing – she takes them off, collects a metal guiro and accompanies the rest of the band. “We’re so happy to be hear in London presenting our second album”, she announces. Magnetismo (2016) is produced by the UK label Soundwaves.

Then it comes ‘Iluminada’ and other songs from the first album, Viene de mí (2012), which reminds you of the great diversity of rhythms in La Yegros repertoire. Milongas, hip-hop, chamamé, funk, Andean rhythm and cumbia, come and go. ‘Atormentada’ and ‘Arde’ two of the songs of the second album that will do well mark the beginning of the highest point in the night. Just in case, she releases her hair and plays ‘Viene de mi’, a major hit followed by more of the new songs: ‘Magnetismo’, ‘Sueñitos’, and the chamamé ‘Déjate llevar’, which marks the end of the show.

Only, they played another chamamé in the encore. ‘El bendito’ (one of her greatest hits) put the audience to jump and dance again before leaving definitely the stage with another classic by now… ‘Trocitos de madera, the ‘incredible’ story of this girl from Misiones (the Argentine province Mariana’s family is from) who cannot help but cry little pieces of wood.
