London based Family Atlantica are a band that echo the increasingly sophisticated style of the capital's cultural diversity.

We're delighted to be presenting this show with world music purveyors Rhythm Passport.

With influences from Latin America, east and west Africa and the Caribbean here, with songs in English, Spanish, Yoruba and Portuguese, at the heart of the band are three people from three different continents.

London born Jack Yglesias, a veteran of The Heliocentrics and live Quantic bands, his wife Luzmira Zerpa, traditional Venezuelan musician, poet and singer with a magical voice acclaimed by MANU CHAO, and half Nigerian-half Ghanaian Kwame 'Natural Power' Crentsil, percussionist, backing vocal, arranger.

Their debut album on Soundway Records has been described by Gilles Peterson as 'a really great record', it was recorded over four years in London and Venezuela, with Cuban rumba, Venezuelan tambor and tonada, Ghanaian highlife, Ethiopian blues and calypso all soaked and infused with psychedelia and spiritual jazz.

Joining them are Vula Viel, a name that literally translates as 'Good is Good' in the Dagaaba language, inspired by bandleader Bex Burch's time spent with with the Dagaaba people of the Upper West Region of Ghana. The band received plaudits for their 2015 album Good is Good, mixing jazz with Ghanaian music and electronica.
