Luis Fonsi and Juan Luis Guerra - LLegaste Tu
The Puerto Rican powerhouse, more recently of Despacito fame of course, teamed up with the iconic Dominican singer-songwriter almost 10 years ago to create this heartwarming melody with lyrics to match that I believe has (deservedly) gone on to become a wedding favourite.
Christian Nodal and Angela Aguilar - Dime Como Quieres
Okay, so this tune from two of Mexican music's newer stars may have been trashed as being overly sentimental or 'cursi' by some but there's no denying its beautiful melody and playful lyrics and I for one love it.
Shakira - Tu
This beautiful ballad was released in 1998, a few years before the Colombian superstar went global, and long before she lost her faith in love! It is a truly heartfelt number, featuring some gorgeous pedal steel guitar - an instrument usually associated with country music. It also showcases the singer's powerful and unique voice.
Enrique Iglesias - Hero
Also a major hit in English, of course, this stirring piece remains one Iglesias' most popular musical moments. Listening to his pleading vocals and the song's lilting melody - ably augmented by a string section - it's easy to see why.
Alejandro Fernandez - Si Tu Supieras
Like a number of other artists on this list, it would be easy to fill a top 10 like this with just Alejandro Fernandez songs. But, after much deliberation, I've gone for this one. It may not be my favourite by him (see Me Dedique a Perderte and Estuve) but it sure is romantic.
Franco de Vita - Te Amo
This was massive when it was released in the 80s...where the Italo Venezuelan, despite the self-professed difficulty, confesses his feelings to his lover and tells her he loves her.
Mana y Joy - Eres Mi Religion
A new take on a classic track from the band's 2002 album, Revolución de Amor, this time the much-loved quartet were joined by Joy, of Jesse & Joy fame to create a sparser version of this wonderful song written by the band's singer, Fher Olvera. See also Vivir Sin Aire.
Pepe Aguilar - Por Mujeres Como Tu
A real monster of a love song, this highly emotive ballad is regularly belted out at karaoke nights in Mexico, and it's easy to see why. Its melody swoops and soars and the mariachi backing musicians really give it that something extra.
Gloria Estefan - Con Los Años Que Me Quedan
Taken from Gloria's hugely successful Spanish language album Mi Tierra, this song from my favourite female singer of all time features a stunning vocal performance and lyrics to melt even the sturdiest of hearts.
Luis Miguel - Por Debajo de la Mesa
We have to finished with the king of romance. We could easily have drawn up a top 10 of just songs by El Sol, and it was difficult to narrow it down to just one, but we'e gone with this timeless single from 1997. A simple yet highly effective sentiment and a glorious black and white video to vividly bring the piece to life.
