Angeliq was born Mariah Angelique Pérez in Miami, Florida to a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother. Her unique name is her real name and interestingly she was named after Mariah Carey and Aaliyah, which represents the influence of the generation of people born from the late 80's to mid 90's. At the young age of 3 her first and only language that she knew was Spanish, that is when her parents enrolled her in a school in New Jersey where she first learnt english.

Mariah Angeliq began writing music at the age of 16, she had been interested in music since she was very young but her parents wanted different plans for her as they were extremely protective and would not allow her to go to the studio and make music so she could get an education and pursue a more "normal" career. Thus began the journey and at 16 she ran away from her home to follow her music career.  Her musical career began with producer Nelly El Arma Secreta, and she rose to prominence in 2018 after signing with Universal Music and releasing the singles "Blah" and "Perreto." Nelly added her to the Artillery Music catalogue and she launched her musical career by remixing Bad Bunny's tune Amorfoda

Her first single "Blah" released in 2018 was the real start of her musical career, the song which has Reggaeton and tropical sounds to it was incredibly refreshing at a time where female reggaetoneras were on a rise and we kept getting all different types of Reggaeton from different talented women. The talented singer and rapper even did an open mic live performance of the song which showed off her sensual and unique pipes which is what has attracted her fan base.

In the same year she dropped the song "Malo" which is one of our favourites, this raw and beautifully composed song gives us all the feels as she talks about that toxic fixation with a bad guy that we can't stop seeing. In fact, her whole fortè is very much about being that new age savage which is different from most females who make songs about being in love, she is yet to release a song like that. Mariah has even given herself the nickname "La Toxica" which is very representative of her whole style- toxic and dark yet beautiful.

In 2019 she released the now popular track Perreito, this song was a hit with 107M views on youtube and it was the track that really rocketed her into the international Latin music scene. In just two months, Perreto received over eight million views across all digital media, reaching Spotify's viral charts in 16 countries. Marah was able to reach 1.2 million Spotify listeners as a result of this. The same year she recorded and released an open mic live performance with Genius of the song which gave it even more heat. In fact the song was so popular that a remix was released with major names Guayna, Arcangel and Darrell.

In 2019 she released the track "Desaparecemos" featuring the one and only Myke Towers (who recently performed right here in London for the very first time ever, make sure to check out our review here on Reggaeton.co.uk) this song is a slow paced yet dance inducing and hearing these contrasting vocals that mesh so well together is quite the treat for the ears. The music video gained 2.7 milliom view in a short space of time and it was no surprise as she had been dropping bangers from the very moment she got signed, seriously, check it out yourself- she has not got a bad song!

In 2020, Angeliq released her first EP Normal. The EP was titled 'Normal,' which is an expression Mariah Angeliq frequently uses to describe her genuine and real vibe. Normal is an organic feeling and an awakening for her, so it was the ideal title for her debut album, which features seven songs that are as diverse and versatile as she is, it included tracks like Perreito Remix, Tu castigo featuring Lyanno and her very popular collaboration with Puerto Rican star Guaynaa "Taxi".

She was a featuring artist on Karol G's 2021 album KG0516, singing in the song "El Makinon" which has been a major hit that you hear at every Latin party. These female collaborations are the pioneering moves of this generation where we are not only spoiled with multiple Latin female singers, but they also collaborate and create magic together. Neo produced the infectious head-bopping, hip moving reggaeton song about females breaking all rules and conventions. "Makinon," which is slang for "big machine" tells the story of a girl who has been independent and working since she was 16 years old, and who can still rely on herself now as the years go by. "El Makinon" debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Here at Reggaeton.co.uk we had this song on repeat for months!

In June 2021 she released yet another fire female anthem "Bobo" which samples the beat from the infamous song "No Scrubs" by TLC. The queen of making songs even better and unique, she joined forces with the Spanish rapper "Bad Gyal" who lives up to her name, she is known for her raunchy and no nonsense attitude in her music influenced by Caribbean music, also on the track is Argentine singer Maria Becerra (check out our Top 10 Argentine Urban artists here on Reggaeton.co.uk).

'Normal' is her only EP thus far but we are not going to sleep on Mariah as in the short 5 years she has been around, she has made big moves and featured on songs by huge names in the industry, her support system is clearly one of a kind as is Mariah, so we have no doubt that she is going to drop something real soon with an array of songs and features no doubt! For now we will have our fix with her many succesful and quite frankly BANGING singles!
