Opera and Tango singer Ann Liebeck, acclaimed for Violetta’s Last Tango (Wiltons Music Hall) (★★★The Times of London ★★★★Edinburgh Festival Fringe) presents the best of Astor Piazzolla’s little known theatrical tango ballads in a long awaited album launch, ‘Tangos for Angels and Demons’, to be released this Autumn.

Accompanied by band leader and internationally renowned bandoneonist Julian Rowlands (Midnight Tango, Olivier nominated) and violinist Emma Blanco of Tango Siempre, alongside the multi award winning great Cuban jazz violinist Omar Puente, the artists present a Latin music cabaret of tangos, beloved Cuban numbers and retro French cabaret songs as performed by Caterina Valente, Josephine Baker, Piaf and Dietrich. They also perform new songs by Ann and Julian, all in their own arrangements. Young jazz pianist and composer Jonny Liebeck (https://www.latinolife.co.uk/articles/surrogate-latino-6-jonny-liebeck-…) and Paul Moylan (She’Koyokh), composer and bassist, complete the lineup.

The artists are all renowned in the field of Latin music and have been collaborating since 2014, exploring classic Cuban and Argentinian musical influences. They have performed regularly in sold out live shows at Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, Wiltons Music Hall, La Linea London Latin Music Festival, Sands Films, Pizza Express Jazz, Dublin National Concert Hall and many other venues.

The songs to be performed provide the soundtrack to a new documentary film that reflects Ann’s travels in Cuba last year and a relationship with the island that dates back to her 2018 performance at Palacio Cervantes as part of the Habana Clásica Festival. The same year, back in London, the artists presented a Classical Latin Music Festival over two nights at The Southbank Centre, Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall which featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. Over the last three years the musicians have been recording a triple album featuring much of the music performed together. This ranges from original songs, tango, Cuban cabaret, and Gypsy Jazz numbers to classic retro French and Weimar cabaret.
