Daddy Yankee performs @ 02 Arena

London provided an electric atmosphere at The 02 but the performance by the King of Reggaetón didn't do it justice, says Abhijit Kapadia

Following on from seeing J Balvin at the Endz Festival, I had the privalege of seeing the Daddy of them all - Daddy Yankee - King of Reggaeton at the wonderful O2 arena in London on Saturday 22nd June.

Personally i was a little disappointed by his concert.  Yes Daddy dazzled the crowd, who were were in fine spirits/voice following a hot summers day and a wonderful Reggaeton set from DJ Khriz, from minute one.  Yes he played most of his blockbuster hits including intro song  'Con Calma' followed by a plethora of hits, Shaky, Gasolina & Dura, culminating in the mother hit of them all - Despacito.  However, the concert went far too quickly and seemed a little rushed, affecting the star's interaction with the crowd and stage presence. Daddy played for a little over an hour which was less than would be expected.

Once again I was fortunate to see the concert in and amonsgt the crowds perspective and everyone was dancing to Daddy's every drop - phones at the ready in the air recording & selfie taking - basking in the moment of this Latin extravaganza.  A cosmopolitan mix from everywhere from all corners of the arena with one common interest - Reggaeton - again showing the popularity of this brand of music, its global appeal, and the crowd diversity.

Next up on my Reggaeton radar - Mr Nicky Nicky Jam in October 2019.  Watch this space!
