THE OCTOBER REGGAETON RECAP

It’s hard to tell what’s dropping faster, the leaves from the trees or the singles and albums from these reggaeton stars. This month is all about the opposites as a formidable new duo discuss the ultimate love while another debate their relationship altogether. Another track even accepts adapting to being single again and all the joys that come with this new lifestyle. As wardrobes shift from crop-tops to sweaters and sandals to boots, the love for Reggaeton stays as consistent as ever.

Becky G – OTRO CAPÍTULO

Gomez has dropped a bouncy track to get up and kick away those autumn leaves, making sure the party keeps going right through Autumn. Opening the chorus with ‘Sé que no estaba en mi plan otra oportunidad, pero así se nos dio’ Becky G is all about accepting changes much like the song’s title, which translates to ‘Another Chapter’. The instrumental directly correlates to the Cumbia genre, a lively and upbeat rhythm which is deeply rooted in Latin music culture. Taken from her newest album ‘Encuentros’ which also dropped this month, Becky G has found herself openly expressing her love towards and making music which is Regional Mexican.

Álvaro Diaz x Nathy Peluso – Xq Eres Así?

Por qué eres así? No, for real? Diaz dropped the standard edition of his album ‘SAYONARA’ in May this year and is now back to push the record more with this duet fronting the deluxe edition. Reggaeton beats are not the main element for this collaboration with passionate R&B-fused melodies and loops taking the lead instead. This song is the epitome of attempting to fixing a broken relationship with Diaz and Peluso stringing out their questions and quieries over the trap-inspired hi-hats. Usual producer Manuel Lara covers the production for the single and he’s worked with Diaz on many tracks before, but his most famous credit is ‘telepatía’ by Kali Uchis.

Shakira – Soltera

Is Youtube Rewind making a glorious return? No even better, it’s the new Shakira video with all-star cameos throughout! From crashing your car with Natti Natasha to gambling with Lele Pons and then chasing all that with Anitta and a round of tequila shots, Shakira is really living the ‘Soltera’ life to the max. The Colombian music pioneer is riding a new high, the tropical guitar strings and fast-paced drums are made for carefree dancing with no inhibitions, this song is an anthem all about living a dream single lifestyle. Shakira understands the sun is fading away but, ‘Aún huele a verano aquí ¿Qué tiene de malo?’.

Sevdaliza & Karol G – No Me Cansare

It’s hitmaker on hitmaker with this one as the Iranian talent who fronted ‘Alibi’, Sevdaliza, is now joining forces with one of Reggaeton’s most successful women to date, Karol G, as they flaunt over finding the perfect lover.  As if they needed any introduction to begin with, Giraldo sings their stage names before the dembow hits and Alizadeh comforts the listener with ‘Don't have fear, I won't let go’. ‘No Me Cansare’ is true to its word, it’s irresistible and addictive. Karol G’s signature talk-singing style ends the duet on ‘Así como yo, baby, ninguna brilla’, and with a career as prominent as the Colombian performer’s, this isn’t an open discussion.

Jhayco, Kapo – Passao

This song has not one but two references to Jhayco’s home nation Puerto Rico firstly, ‘Españolita, pero la llevé pa' Icaco' which draws upon the small island Cayo Icacos. The latter references Bad Bunny’s iconic 2023 music video, ‘Quiere en un yate como el video de "MÓNACO"’, who doesn’t want a boat that big? Both Jhayco and Kapo work well together on the minimalistic beat which fuses a reggaeton soundboard with some trap-inspired elements, it’s a perfect pairing. The duo are all about treating their love interest with the utmost respect even getting down on their knees for them, ‘Me tienes orándote como un pastor’.

Bonus Track:

Blessd X Ovy On The Drums – Casi Algo

Eery synths begin this record as the Colombian pairing take listeners to the world of ‘Casi Algo’. Blessd has been slowly but surely ticking off latin collaborators from Peso Pluma to Maluma and now Ovy On The Drums is his newest musical bond. The Colombians collide with Ovy handling instrumentation and Blessd delivering some unmatchable bars like ‘Hoy salí tigre, ella una gacela/ Hoy es mi presa, hoy es mi cena (Ah), ¿sí sabe?’. Halfway through the track, the usual dembow rhythm is swapped for a trap-fused beat as the two interchange for the rest of the song. The title may translate to ‘Almost Something’ but this collaboration is a definite triumph.
