Things That Matter To...Pablo Egea

Winning last year's LUKAS for Outstanding Male Dance Performer, Pablo Egea captured Londoners' attention after spotting this rising star in the West End show "Heart Beat of Home" as a flamenco soloist dancer. And its no surprise he stood out…Pablo Egea started his dance studies at the age of eight at the Conservatorio Profesional de danza de Murcia. In 2006 he joined the Ballet Español de Murcia, becoming soloist and later first dancer. In 2010 he joined the Ballet Nacional de España. In 2013 he worked with the Ballet Español de Cuba, choreographing "Sonata" and "Solea por Bulerías" debuting at the Teatro Nacional de La Habana. He has worked as a choreographer and soloist with many Flamenco dance companies in Spain and all over the world. This year he was resident flamenco master at Centro Proart in Queretaro (México) and participated as a master and principal dancer in "Iberica Contemporanea" the biggest flamenco festival in Latin America, in Queretaro (Mexico). Here are the 'things that matter' to Pablo Egea

I was born in Murcia, a city in the southeast of Spain, close to Mediterranean Sea. And my two old sisters danced Flamenco, so they forced me to learn dance…

I grew up receiving a lot of love from my parents…and so I think through them I’ve inherited the ability to give love

The hardest thing I’ve had to overcome is understand that I am not perfect as a dancer. There will always be better dancers than me....and I´ve learned to look with admiration and learn all the time.

The most memorarble book I’ve read is“La catedral del mar” by Ildefonso Falcones.

The album that most inspired me…“De aki a Ketama” by Ketama, the original flamenco fusion album (long before Rosalia), that so inspired me in my childhood, and of course Alejandro Sanz…the best spanish singer ever….for me his music is constantly inspiring….

I admire…Jesus Carmona, Ana Morales, Rocio Molina, Marco Flores (flamenco dancers), and musicians like Alejandro Sanz or the cuban Alain Perez and generally people struggling to make the worls a better place…a world without so many inequalities

I spent Quarantine living in Mexico with my friends, cooking for them in my house…staying in contact with the dance community through social media, and also bring very close to my family and my friends thanks to tecnology, distance doesn´t matter….iIam in touch with everybody, in spite living so far from Spain…

I would tell my younger self ….work hard, be discipline, consistant and focus in your goals. Effort is sometimes under-valued…

The values I live by are...live happy, full of energy, always reaching for you next goals in life, trying to respect people and give love and art to everybody.

I believe in destiny, in the way of life, and the good vibes of people. People who do bad things doesn´t use to affect me….i feel sad for that kind of people….

Pablo performed as part of an array of outstanding artists at Fuerza London - a film commemorating the experience of London's Latin community during COVID, through music, dance, poetry and real life stories. Watch full film below
