About the role
The Latino Life editorial team creates, edits and publishes fetaures, interviews, reviews and reference articles in print and online, spanning everything from music to food fashion culture and politics. We are a very small team and you will you’ll be expected to turn your hand to a variety of tasks, including writing, copy-editing, video production and anything else that comes up!
Your tasks will include:
- Generating and researching ideas for stories.
- Creating and implementing editorial calendar and timetable
- Finding and approaching people to interview and develop contacts and relationships
- Researching and writing stories, creating content
- Uploading content onto Website, YouTube and other audio and visual platforms
- Exploring different content formats and ways to present stories (written, videos)
- Developing databases of contacts and making useful connections
- Finding and building a pool of other contributors and manage those contributors
- Liasing with designer to provide content for social media
- Assessing audience engagement using analytics, social media interaction
- Produce/edit additional multimedia content (e.g. audio video)
- Advance the organisation's reputation in the industry
- Formatting, editting and proofreading other’s material
- Creating newsletters and other materials when needed
- Learning new processes and technical skills, and manage own continuing professional development (CPD)
- General assisting LatinoLife’s editor
We're looking for people with:
• Either a degree in Journalism, English or any Social Science (e.g. HIstory, Sociology, Politics, Latin American studies), OR demonstrable alternative experience and aptitude
• Strong written and communication skills, with an eagle eye for detail
• The ability to multitask, effectively managing your own workload and proactively seeking opportunities to help
• Finding and managing contributors
• Digital and/or magazine publishing experience, particularly using InDesign, Drupal and ideally - but not vital - some knowledge of tools such as Photoshop and Google Analytics
• The ability to follow a robust process of content creation, sign-off and publishing process
• Passion for and knowledge of Latin American music and culture, contemporary and past
• Essential: Fluent in Spanish and English. Desired: Working Portuguese
• Most importantly, a great go-getting attitide and self-starting approach who doesn't need prompting, a desire to become a highly-valued team member and all-round content superstar!
